Betsy Harloff is a mother of five children whom she homeschools. As a high school dropout who eventually went on to study Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Toledo, she understood the importance of a tailored education. She quickly realized the curriculum she purchased for her dyslexic son was not working so, she created her own.
Through Betsy’s tailored homeschool approach, her first son, Sebastian Harloff, started full time at the University of Toledo at age the of 14. She has also mentored local parents and helped them enroll their children before they reached high school age. During Sebastian’s first semester he enrolled in a Cultural Anthropology class, one that he once sat in at the age of 2, coloring on the floor of the lecture hall next to his mother who needed to bring her son to class to get her degree.
Sebastian graduated in the fall of 2019, Magna Cum Laude, with his bachelor’s degree in media communication at the age of 19. Sebastian’s younger sister, Alexis joined him at the University in 2018 at just 12 years of age passing her college entrance exam at the age of 11, she is set to start full time in 2020 and graduate at the age of 19 as well with her bachelors degree in Social work.
Betsy is married to the father of her children and currently resides on a 15-acre homestead in Ohio. She squeezes in a few hours each day working on her next book, in between learning to live off the land, chase chickens and homeschool her three younger children.
Betsy is a strong believer in community and out of the box thinking. She has volunteered her time with organizations such as Girl Scouts and Kids for Peace. In 2020, she established a partnership with the Toledo Library introducing a Mompreneur book club servicing woman owned businesses in the Lucas county area.
Whenever she can get away you will find her on the water kayaking, wandering her garden or hiking the beautiful trails in her local Metroparks identifying the unique flora and fauna in the Oak Openings region.
