No Makeup Monday

Is this a thing? It should be!

When I go out with no makeup on, I feel vulnerable and less confident.  Let’s face it, no pun intended 😊 looks matter.

You can argue with me all day long, but they do! It goes all the way back to our roots of human survival. Men were more attracted to woman who were healthy looking with larger hips because they would be able to bear children and create healthy offspring. Women looked for strong men to protect them and their offspring from dangers. Hold on there feminists don’t get your panties in a bunch! It’s true men are genetically stronger, and we needed a strong man to keep us safe. This is science!

Obviously, a lot has changed since the early stages of humankind, but attraction plays a huge role in how we interact with each other.

Harvard did a study where they set up an attractive female cashier and an unattractive one using factors, they have studied that people find beautiful. Things like hip to waist ratio, symmetrical faces, straight teeth and long healthy hair. These are traits that exude the perception of a healthy human.

Healthy = Attractive

We want to breed and interact with those who are genetically superior to create a stronger human race. Gosh, that sounds a lot like Hitler!

The study showed that both men and woman chose the line with the more attractive person with healthy desirable traits, even though the line was longer. Pretty crazy huh?

Makeup was only invented to accentuate features, redder lips, rosier cheeks, bigger eyes and more pronounced cheekbones. A study also showed that the use of too much make up was also unattractive so there is a fine line there ladies and no real manual how to do it just right.

I’m not sure if it was my mom, or the media that influenced me at a young age to wear makeup in order to feel beautiful. I gotta imagine, it was both, possibly more my mother since she wouldn’t leave the house when I was younger without putting her face on, as she called it!

Children see everything, which is why it’s so important to “be the change.” My phrase for 2020.

Start acting the way you want those around you to act.

I wear makeup about 70% of the time. I feel more comfortable with makeup on but, the more I show up on social media and leave the house without makeup the better I feel about my naked face. I want my daughters to know that it’s okay to not wear makeup and feel comfortable and confident in their own skin.

I still wear makeup a good percent of the time, but more and more I showing up with a raw face for myself and for my daughters.
